Purpose / Overview :

We are seeking an entrepreneurial and experienced Market Entry Operation Manager to spearhead our expansion into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). As a Market Entry Manager, you will be responsible for setting up and managing the operations of our existing company in this new market. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact and drive our success in a dynamic and critical environment. 

Activities :

Market analysis and strategy development :

• Conduct thorough market research and/or network extensively in-country to gain deep insights into the DRC utility and C&I market, including competitive landscape, regulatory requirements, and cultural notes
• Develop a comprehensive market entry strategy that aligns with the company's objectives, ensuring a sustainable and profitable presence in the DRC
• Identify potential risks, challenges, and opportunities in the market, and propose effective mitigation strategies. 

Operations setup and management :

• Establish the company's presence in the DRC by overseeing the setup of operations, including legal and regulatory compliance, logistics, infrastructure, and local partnerships
• Develop and implement employment & operational policies and procedures that are tailored to the DRC market, while ensuring alignment with the company's overall standards and values. This will be in conjunction with the supporting business unit functional leads
• Assess local talent on the ground and build and lead a cross-functional team to execute operational plans, ensuring effective coordination and communication across various departments
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

Business development and relationship management :

• Identify and evaluate potential business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and distribution channels in the DRC market to drive revenue growth
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, suppliers, and distributors, to foster trust and collaboration
• Represent the company in industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance brand visibility and establish a strong market presence.

Risk assessment and compliance :

• Conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential legal, regulatory, and operational risks associated with operating in the DRC market
• Stay updated on local laws, regulations, and industry standards, ensuring the company's compliance with all relevant requirements
• Implement robust internal control measures to safeguard company assets and ensure transparency and accountability in all operations.

Competencies and experience :

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, International Business, or a related field. MBA or equivalent is preferred
• Proven experience 3+ years in setting up and managing operations of your own entrepreneurial or early-stage company, or an existing company in new markets, preferably in emerging economies or Africa
• Ideally a strong understanding of the DRC market, including cultural nuances, regulatory frameworks, and business practices
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of successfully launching new ventures or business units
• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams in a multicultural environment
• Strategic thinking and analytical abilities to identify market trends, assess risks, and make data-driven decisions
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills to establish and maintain fruitful relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
• Fluency in English and French is required; knowledge of local languages such as Lingala or Swahili is a plus.
